The Centre for Research in Lifelong Learning (CRLL) maintains an infrastructure for the promotion and support of research in Lifelong Learning which transcends disciplinary, institutional, sectoral and national boundaries. Research and development activities focus on the challenges of developing lifelong learning policies and practices to better address rapidly changing economic and social needs in a knowledge economy. CRLL has established a national and international reputation for research excellence and innovation. Research and development work is designed to be mutually reinforcing and aims to inform learning policies and practices, build the capacity of teachers, researchers and institutions and impact on the personal development and well-being of students and individual learners.
CRLL research projects have been funded by a wide range of a agencies including the Scottish Executive (now Scottish Government), ESRC, SQA, QAA, HMIe, HEA, SFC, HEFCE, Universities UK, DfES (now DIUS), European Commission, Nuffield Foundation, Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA), Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE).
